Savannah's St. Patrick's Day Parade is the most popular of the St. Patrick's Day festivities in Savannah and a must while spending St. Patrick's Day weekend in Savannah. This parade has been happening in the city since 1824, and this year (2024) marks its 200th anniversary. This year's parade will occur on Saturday, March 16th, the day before St. Patrick's Day. It is the country's largest St. Patrick's Day parade, following the parades in New York City and Chicago!
The parade route starts at the intersection of Gwinnett Street and Abercorn Street, near Forsyth Park, and travels down Abercorn Street, Broughton Street, Bay Street, and Bull Street before ending at the intersection of Bull Street and Harris Street. People usually camp out along the parade route for the best views of the St. Patrick's Day Parade! Consider purchasing bleacher seats on Bay Street, near Colonial Park Cemetery, or near St. John's Cathedral for a guaranteed seat.
The St. Patrick's Day Parade begins promptly on Abercorn immediately after the Celebration of Mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at 10:15 AM. During this celebration, you can expect elaborate floats, marching bands, live music, traditional dancers, and other celebrations of Irish heritage.
